Bangladesh Water Development Board (BWDB) is a specialized agency of the government engaged in sustainable development of agriculture, fisheries, forests, etc. through proper management of water resources, flood, drought, waterlogging, international river flow, salinity, adverse effects of climate change and proper management of natural environment. Its journey began in 1959 with the formation of the East Pakistan Water and Power Development Authority (EPWAPDA). After independence in 1972, the Bangladesh Water Development Board (BWDB) under the Ministry of Water Resources with the same goal of water share emerged as a fully autonomous body. The current goal of the Water Development Board is to increase the knowledge and capacity of the people of the country by ensuring financial viability, social justice and environmental awareness so that they can plan and manage water resources for their own efficient use through the participation of a large number of people. The largest irrigation project is the GK (Ganga-Kobadak) irrigation project. GK Irrigation Project is located in Kushtia, Chuadanga, Jhenaidah and Magura districts. Chuadanga Water Development Division Division carries out various development works for the efficient use of water resources including management and maintenance of irrigation canals and other irrigation structures located in Chuadanga District under GK Irrigation Project.
